A CHARITY EVENT FROM OUR SUNSET MAHJONG COMMUNITY

Mahjong
Marathon Charity

50 hours straight. For two local charities.

Four members of Mahjong Meet & Learn are playing Hong Kong-style mahjong for 50 hours without stopping on November 23-25 to raise money for Wah Mei and Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue. We’re trying to beat the published record for the longest mahjong marathon. We are following the timekeeping rules used by the Guinness World Records, with witnesses on hand the whole way through.

Come donate, volunteer, play, or just cheer us on.

How the marathon works

The ground rules

  • Play runs for 50 hours straight, from start to finish.

  • Players earn one 5-minute break for each hour of play. Breaks can be saved up and taken together, and all four players break at the same time.

  • Two witnesses are on hand for every shift, watching closely with minimal distractions. One keeps time while the other observes.

  • At the end of each shift, witnesses sign an official statement in the log book confirming play continued the whole time.

  • We follow the timekeeping rules of established record-documenting organizations, so the attempt can be verified.
